*Importance Of Soldering Antenna Connectors*

During my time as a ham operator Iíve run in to this issue several times. For one reason or another some people who install connectors on a piece of coax only solder the center conductor to the center pin of the connector and neglect to solder the braid to the connector chassis. Not soldering the shield makes the connector weak physically AND electrically. Poor shield (ground) connections can easily lead to high SWR and signal loss.

Unsoldered shield- the colored circle is the braid showing through a solder hole

Now, by physically weak I mean this-

Fell apart

The coax came right out of the connector leaving only the soldered center conductor.

Bottom line, solder the center AND shield!!
