Duct tape has so many uses for survival situations that I refused to leave it out of my BOB, but a roll of duct tape was simply too big for the compactness I desired. So this is what I did:

I took the plastic tubing from a recently finished spool of dental floss and started wrapping the duct tape from the original roll around the plastic tube. A pencil or any cylindrical object will also serve just as well. I wrapped about half of the roll, giving me about 25 yards of duct tape in a compact package that now fits comfortably in my BOB. The same thing could also be done around an A.L.I.C.E. pack frame if so desired.
