*My Experience with Aerobic 07*

In January of 2005, I purchased my first 55 gallon drum for water storage. I wanted to treat the water with something other than bleach, due to an allergy, so I bought a two ounce bottle of "Aerobic 07" to treat the water, which I found on the Nitro-Pak web site.

Aerobic 07 is basically stabilized electrolytes containing oxygen in molecular form which kills harmful microbes, bacteria, parasites, and viruses by over oxygenating the water. I wasn't sure how well it would work, especially without anyone I know having any experience with it, but I wanted to give it a shot. So I followed the label and treated the 55 gallon drum with one ounce, or half of the bottle, of Aerobic 07. The company claims that this will make the water safe to drink for five years or longer. Getting impatient, I figured three years would be a good enough time frame for my first rotation. So I went ahead and checked and rotated the water a few weekends ago.

I unscrewed the cap and took a whiff. It smelled like fresh tap water. I took a look with my flashlight and the water was completely clear. No algae at all. I got out my new siphon pump, still new in the box, and pumped some water out for a taste test. The pump did not work as well as I expected. That was disappointing, but this is one of the reasons why I wanted to do the rotation now, so I could discover any problems with the equipment or process. I ended up having to get some tubing to use as a traditional suck and spit siphon, because the siphon pump wasn't completely air tight to work properly. It was junk. I'm definitely going to have to buy a better pump. So back to the taste test. It actually tasted good. It wasn't flat at all. I was very pleased. It was originally tap water so it still had a little chlorinated taste and smell, but I don't think I could have told the difference between this and fresh tap water.

I noticed when I looked inside the drum again that I could see that there was some direct sunlight shining through the edge of the garage door onto the drum . I didn't even realize that light was coming in all this time. The water was still in great condition even after 3 years with some direct sunlight and 90-110 degree temperatures in the summer. That impressed me even more.

So after I had the drum completely drained, I moved it back in a corner away from the sunlight and to where people would not be able to see it as easily. I then filled it up and treated it with another ounce of Aerobic 07. It should be good for another 3 years at least, but I think I'll give it five this time. :)

If I could say anything bad about it, it would probably be the price, which runs about $18 for the 2 ounce bottle. I have been able to find it for around $14 on vitamin web sites though. But overall I am very happy with the results, so I give Aerobic 07 a big thumbs up.
